Pleman Woodland, Mine Engineer and Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), is a highly experienced mining and safety professional with extensive expertise in surface and underground operations, mine safety, regulatory compliance inspections and investigations, and occupational health and safety leadership. Over several decades in Nova Scotia’s mining industry, Pleman has held key operational and technical roles including Mine Engineer, Longwall Manager, Outburst Engineer, Weekend Mine Manager, and Mine Inspector/OHS Officer with the Nova Scotia Department of Labour. As Outburst Engineer at the Phalen Colliery, Pleman traveled internationally to France, Germany, and Ukraine to study sandstone gas outburst conditions in underground coal mines. His work included examining geological triggers, gas‑pressure mechanisms, and prevention strategies used by international operators. The findings from this research directly contributed to the development of a Safe Code of Practice for Working in Sandstone Gas Outburst‑Prone Ground in the Sydney Coalfield, Nova Scotia. Pleman has also participated in a Canadian delegation to China, assisting government officials and mining authorities in improving underground mine safety practices, and regulatory frameworks. With more than 25 years as a member of the International Society of Explosives Engineers, Pleman brings deep technical knowledge in blasting safety, explosives regulations, and high‑risk operational environments. He has represented Canada internationally as both a mine safety advisor and a competitor in the World International Mine Rescue Competition, demonstrating advanced emergency response capability and leadership under pressure. Today, Pleman leads PJJ Safety and Compliance Services, providing employers with practical, professional, and experience‑driven support to help them meet their Occupational Health & Safety responsibilities with confidence.
